Banyan trees don't just grow out of pagodas ... they will grow anywhere they can gain a foothold! Notice the Art-Deco influence on the architecture, prevalent throughout the main, pedestrianised, shopping-centre.
Not a good idea to leave it there--look at what banyan trees did to Angkhor Wat!--as it will tear the building apart, but in this part of China, banyan trees seem almost sacred and are protected.
