Traditional Chinese shops are open-fronted, with wooden shutters that are often stacked outside the front while the shop is open. In Zhujiajiao the traditions from the Qing Dynasty and earlier--before Western influence took hold--are preserved, so the shops have banners outside advertising what they sell. Very attractive. |
