The boundary between the old and the new ... Through the gateway and turn left to enter the old part of the town of Zhujiajiao.
Zhujiajiao, a small town where rivers meet, was a major, wholesale rice trading town, buying in the rice from farmers around about, milling it and distributing it on to the markets of Shanghai further downriver. The name means "Zhu Family Corner". Now it makes most of its money through tourism, as it is only an hour's bus-ride from Shanghai. You have to pay to go through that gate!
