This salad is unique to the Alibaba restaurant, which has neither the cucumber appetiser nor laohucai on the menu. "Mouren shala"—I don't know how "mouren" is written, so don't know its translation—is truly Middle Eastern in style. The first time I had it, the dressing was lemon juice with a touch of sugar, the second time it was white rice vinegar. Lemons are not always available in Xiamen! Simple, cool and delicious!
