Xiamen
Sunday, June 5, 2005 Xiamen is where I am based. It is a little island, almost round and about 13 km in diameter, with another small islet Gulangyu a five minute ferry-ride off shore. It is famous for being the most liveable city in China, and also for its seafood. The Xiamenese also have a reputation, fully justified, for being relaxed and for enjoying life, rather than being driven by success like the residents of the other major cities in China. For all that, Xiamen is very prosperous and has been very innovative in all sorts of social, commercial and legislative ways. It's a great place to live and work.
